This book is part of my 2016 reading challenge!
I’ve had a very hard time writing this review because I really don’t know what I think about this book. It’s not bad but it’s not good either.
This is the story about Miriam and Filip that moves from Sweden to Sicily with their toddler. Although the landscape is beautiful and the weather nice both Miriam and Filip are not happy. They are stuck in a bubble where reality doesn’t reach in. The contrast between their beautiful surroundings and the reality of thousands of refugees that is washed up just a few kilometers from their home fills the story. But when their good friends from Sweden come and visit they have to face the reality that is happening just outside their home.
Negar Naseh’s writing is simple. I read this book in a day so it’s also a very easy read.
This book has been given a lot of positive response in Sweden and honestly I don’t know why, it feels like I’m missing something.
I thought that the reader never really got to know the characters or their thoughts. And the ending was very unsatisfying and I really don’t like unsatisfying endings.
