This book is part of my 2016 reading challenge!

I’m a big fan of Lauren Oliver and I really loved Before I Fall. I’ve heard so much about this trilogy and I had to read it.

This is the first book in the Delirium series. Oliver has created a dystopian world where love is a disease and people need to be cured of it. The main character, Lena can’t wait to be cured and counts down the days. But then she meets Alex and nothing is ever the same again.I really liked the concept of this book and found it to be compelling and intriguing. The idea that love is a disease and is something we need to be cured from is interesting. However, this was a very slow and sometimes a boring book. For the first half Lena was really annoying. I found her to be weak and irritating, but then something happens and she becomes more likable. Her character development is interesting, but slow just like the whole story. That doesn’t necessarily mean that this is a bad book because it’s not, it’s just not a page-turner.

It is only in the last few pages that we get some action and excitement and honestly the ending was the only thing that was really good. I probably will read the other two books, but I’m not in a hurry to finish this series.
