This book is part of my 2015 reading challenge

This book is one of the most emotionally heavy books I’ve read in a long time. This is my second book by Majgull Axelsson. I really don’t know what I think of her as a writer just yet, but I really liked this novel. This is the story of a Romany girl who survived the holocaust and takes on the name Miriam when she comes to Sweden. She never says who she is or that she is Romany until her 85th Birthday when she for some reason says that her name is not Miriam. From there we follow her through her memories from the time before the World War II and to the day she arrives in Sweden.

Axelsson is a great writer and this novel is well written, however, it is longer than it should be and sometimes repetitive. That makes it a slow read and sometimes a bit boring.

The topic that Axelsson is writing about is important and very interesting. I recommend this book to anybody who likes to read well-written books about different life stories.
