This book is part of my 2016 reading challenge!
Just like the other books in the Throne of Glass series, this fourth book is full of adventure, action, and mystery. A lot of things happen in this book and I’m a bit confused about my review because on one hand, I really love this book and series, but on the other hand Queen of Shadows was a bit of a disappointment.
Sarah J. Maas has grown as a writer with every book, developing a complex and interesting plot. Saying that I felt like Maas lost connection to her characters or her original story because it felt like she changed her mind about her own story and characters.
I just didn’t believe in the whole Chaol and Celaena/Aelin development, in the end of the second book they were on good terms, but in the beginning of this one they kind of hate each other. I felt like Maas was trying to lead her readers into her new plot, that I felt she came up with in the middle of this series, at the expense of Chaols character – not cool! Celaena/Aelin was still a badass character, but the more I read about her the more annoying she gets. There were some parts and scenes in this book that was unnecessary. Rowan was a good character, but the relationship between Celaena/Aelin and Rowan happened too quickly. I just didn’t buy it.
Manon grew a lot in this book and I have to admit that I didn’t like her at first, but she really became an interesting and important character in this series. Dorian is also one of the characters that grow with each book and what happens to him is both sad and awesome at the same time.
I still love this series and will definitely continue reading it, but this book and the path it took was a bit disappointing.
