Never before have a book made me feel so much as The Light Between Oceans have. This book got a hold of all of my emotions from the first page and throws them all over the place. I’ve never experienced that in my entire life. I was going from heartbreak to anger, to despair, to happiness and then to some more heartbreak.

This is the story about Tom Sherbourne who takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock. He lives on this isolated island with his wife, Isabel. One day a boat washes up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

M. L. Stedman’s writing and description of the environment is mesmerizing. She has really captured the roughness of the island and at the same time describing the beauty. Her characters are real and likable just as much as unlikable. My feelings while reading this book were truly all over the place. I really don’t know what I think about the whole situation. I mean; I really liked the book, but the decisions and the outcome of the story are confusing.

I don’t know what I think about the characters’ decisions, do I agree, was it good, was it bad.. I really don’t know! And that’s why I really liked this book. It made me think and question all of the moral codes there is in life.
