Visiting the floating forest

20131107_192022 Outside Sydney’s coast at Homebush bay you can find a well-preserved piece of history, they call it The Floating Forest. It’s a ship, the SS Aryfield to be more specific, that was used in WWII and was abandoned. After so many years in the bay the ship is now home to mangrove trees, hence the name “floating forest”.

The sight of the ship is amazing! It’s so close to the shore that you can almost touch it, which makes it even more amazing.

Besides the SS Aryfield there are other abandoned ships, the bay is literally a ship cemetery.

But none of the other ships are as beautiful as the SS Aryfield, just because of the forest that is growing on it. I have to admit that the sight of the boat made me think about some fantasy stories. The other ships are just creepy, they have mold and rusted, not a pretty sight.

The best time to see the ship cemetery is just before sunset.
